Daily Reading of the ScripturesAs we near difficult times, one of the best ways to prepare is to memorize scripture. This will be a great blessing to us as well as to those around us. Put away the foolish reading matter and study the Word of God. Commit its precious promises to memory so that when we shall be deprived of our Bibles we may still be in possession of the Word of God.–Ms 85, 1909, p. 10. (Lessons of Self-denial, Trust and Cooperation,” Sermon preached in Nevada, Iowa, August 21, 1909.)
Crayons = CandleOk, let me explain. If you have kids, or know anyone who does, there is probably an overabundance of crayons lying around the house. Believe it or not, you can use a crayon as an emergency candle when the power goes out.
The standard size crayons burn for about 10 minutes. It isn’t a bad idea to keep a pack of crayons around. They are good for keeping kids entertained and, who knows, you may use them as a backup light source or emergency fire starter.

Firebox: Now you're cookin'.Have you ever had a power outage and found yourself unable to cook a meal or heat up some food? A portable and light weight camp stove might be a good solution for that problem. There are many camping stoves you can choose from, but an easy one to use is called the Firebox camp stove. It is light weight, foldable, easy to set up and as fuel you can either use a small fuel canister or sticks and small branches to cook up a meal! I have used it for camping but for a power outage it would be a great solution. — Andrea Laws |
